Your kids are pretty young but if they are pool hounds and you want to keep them busy I would also consider the Hyatt (Certainly not the caliber of either of these 2 but very kid friendly). Montage also has a shuttle down to main Laguna Beach. An main beach in Laguna always has tons of kids. Laguna Beach is WAY better than Dana Point. In fairness last time I was at the Ritz quite a few Hollywood people were there so staff wasn't as welcoming as normal. Beach is bigger at the Ritz but as stated doesn't feel connected to the resort and is a pain to get to. I like the beach at Montage better, much more scenic.
You would need to go up and stay at the Hyatt Huntington Beach that does have a larger pool complex. If pools with slides, etc are important for the kids then nowhere in Laguna/Dana Point has anything like that. Neither place has a pool anywhere close to the kids pools at the GW. To be clear he referenced the Mosaic adult pool at the Grand Wailea. The Ritz probably has a slightly bigger pool but no view of the ocean.
